Reliance Jio launches Jio Phone & Twitterati Can't Stop Mocking Airtel, Vodafone
Newbie telecom operator Reliance Jio has once again disrupted the Indian telecom market by launching its 4G-enabled LTE feature phone– Jio Phone. The phone was launched by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company’s 40th Annual Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held in Mumbai on Friday.
“Entry-level smartphones cost between Rs 3,000-4,500. I had challenged young engineers at Jio to find a solution to this cost. And now let me introduce India ka Smartphone– Jio Phone,” Ambani said while unveiling the device.
To give you a quick recap of the specifications, Jio Phone features a 2.4-inch QVGA display and comes with an SD card slot, headphone jack and a rear camera. The phone comes with a bunch of preloaded apps like Jio Music, Jio TV and Mann Ki Baat. Interestingly, Jio Phone supports 22 Indian languages. You can also use voice commands to use your Jio Phone. The good part about the phone is that you can use any of the 22 regional languages to operate your Jio Phone.
The phone will be available for beta testing from August 15, 2017, and interested buyers can pre-order the device from August 24, 2017. Furthermore, the phone will be available on the first-cum-first-serve basis from September this year and the company will start manufacturing the phone in India from the final quarter of 2017.
